Growing Mindful Families in a Digital World

Mindful You is a nonprofit helping children, youth, and families build healthy, mindful relationships with technology. Through programs like Screen Time, a children’s book about a boy’s first phone, and Reading is Lit, which brings literacy to life in California schools, Mindful You inspires learning and curiosity.

For parents and students, we have Workshops that offer practical strategies to navigate technology at home, fostering engagement, connection, and mindful moments. Mindful You is dedicated to helping families thrive in balance with the digital world.

Kids Are Spending More Time on Screens Than Ever—Screen Time Helps Families Build Healthier Digital Habits

Teens spend an average of seven hours and 22 minutes on their phones a day, and tweens -- ages 8 to 12 -- are not far behind, at four hours and 44 minutes daily.

Screen Time chronicles the story of Leo receiving his first cell phone. He is initially overwhelmed by the influence of social media and the internet but eventually finds his way through mindfulness and self awareness.

It’s a perfect book to kick off a conversation with children as they begin their relationship with technology and to support better boundaries with it.

Help Support Child Literacy

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), a sector of the U.S. Department of Education, by 8th grade, 85 percent of Black students lack proficiency in reading skills.

Representation matters!

There are more books that feature mythical characters than children of color.

Supporting a young black and brown child’s literacy journey by gifting a book that features a protagonist that looks like them!

Why This Book Matters?

Too much screen time has been linked to a range of health and social issues in kids. Screen Time times promotes mindful usage of technology.

“Several  studies have documented that higher levels of screen time are  associated with less sleep, more attention problems, and lower academic  performance and involvement.”

Support for Communities

Sreen time is a kid friendly, science based book; encouraging both young and old to take a closer took at our own relationship with technology. The intention is to support children in learning better boundaries with their devices and to discover their own Mindfulness practice.
